Message from the President

{Maas}

Before my children were enrolled in Piscataway’s schools, I went to a Strategic Planning Committee because I wanted to have a voice in the direction of our school district. I wanted to make sure that Piscataway could be proud of its schools. I wanted to assure that our schools were ready and focused on meeting the educational needs of each child, and that the quality of Piscataway’s academic program was preparing my children and yours to meet the challenges of a rapidly-changing world.

Nine years later, I sit here as the parent of two children in our schools, as the president of the Board of Education, and as the bearer of good news - our schools have made tremendous academic improvements and continue to move in the right direction.

Our schools have three simple but challenging goals – improving academic performance, providing high-quality customer service, and uniting our community behind every child. We have revised what is being taught in classrooms, improved test scores, increased the number of students taking Advanced Placement and honors classes, and made headway in closing the achievement gap among some groups of students. Our middle schools have been reorganized to improve the educational program and to provide equity in resources and programming among all three.

This past year, we conducted a professional district-wide survey among parents and non-parents and were pleased to learn that overall, our community is satisfied with our schools and recognizes that good public schools increase our quality of life, our property values, and most of all, the opportunities that our children will enjoy in the future.

Join me as we continue this journey toward the best for every child in Piscataway. The Board of Education welcomes the participation and feedback of all of you as we face the future.
