Welcome to room 32! My name is Mrs. Kathy Walsh. This is my third year teaching in Piscataway. I will be at Randolphville School in the morning working with Mrs. Corkwell. In the afternoon I will be at Children’s Corner.

In Kindergarten we will be using the Tools of the Mind Curriculum. Tools of the Mind creates a classroom where children’s skills reflect their learning capacity. Most of the learning experiences are center based. The children learn through play and hands on activities in these centers.

We finished the month of April reading the Magic Tree House book Midnight on the Moon. Annie and Jack solved the fourth part of the riddle needed to save Morgan. The students learned facts about our moon and the solar system.

During the month of May, we will begin reading Charlotte’s Web. The students will read about Wilbur, a gentle and curious pig who befriends a spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur learns of his inevitable fate, Charlotte spins a web that reads "Some Pig," which convinces everyone around that there's something special about Wilbur, and this leads to adventures at the State Fair and an honored place at the family farm.   Will Charlotte’s web message save Wilbur?  What type of adventures will Charlotte and Wilbur experience? These questions and more will be answered as we read our new story!

Each day the children summarize their favorite part of the story. Ask your child to tell you about the story. They love discussing what they have read! The students will rotate through 8 different centers.

In Math, we will continue to expand our knowledge on about many different topics such as shapes, sorting, counting objects, and making patterns using many different manipulatives. The students are also working on writing their numbers. We have been reviewing skip counting and money.  Last month the students are learning about 2D and 3D shapes.  This month the students are working on learning about time.

Ask your child each afternoon about “The Message of the Day” and “Share the News”…they love talking about their school day!
