May is here!

Congratulations on the REMARKABLE improvement made during the 3rd marking period!  21 out of 26 students made Soaring High or Reaching New Heights and EVERYONE made a significant effort.  Let's keep it up during the 4th marking period!

Literacy classes are continuing to read historical fiction novels of life in early America...prior to it even being America!  Skills such as main idea, characterization, author's purpose, and analyzing text are all being reviewed in preparation for NJ ASK.

Fifth graders in my class are encouraged to have a chapter book in school to read. They should read 20-30 minutes a day for enjoyment.

As you have probably noticed, open-ended questions are used in all areas!  Students will be expected to use details in their responses in Literacy, Social Studies and Science. Students use a format for answering them, using 3 paragraphs.  Please encourage them to use the format.

We started Social Studies again by looking at early America and the colonies. This corresponds to the books being read in literacy so students will get a double dose of what early America was like!

Encourage students to always try their best & hand all assignments in on time! They must remain focused at all times. We will be very busy so it is important that we maintain a positive learning environment.
