I hope everyone had a relaxing break. Room 1 has been working hard in preparation for the NJASK, which will take place the week of May 7th.. Please make sure your child is well rested, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school on time, so he/she can perform their best.
In Literacy, our concentration will be on an author study and reading fictional books. Students will read a lot of books by Chris Van Allsburg and will get to know this author through his writing. Students will continue to be exposed to different types of nonfiction text ranging from magazine articles to history. We will focus on various skills as fact and opinion, compare and contrast, and summarizing. Classwork and homework assignments will reinforce these skills.
In Grammar, we have covered adjectives. We will work on adverbs, prepositions, and prepositional phrases. In Writing, students will continue to work on expository and speculative prompts. In addition, we continue to work on our vocabulary skills throughout our lessons.
Students work on skills and strategies that good readers and writers use. In the mornings we will continue to focus on sample NJ Ask reviews in preparation for the NJ Ask.
In Science, we covered the unit on planets and other objects in space. We will learn about classifying living things. Students will enjoy making models of plant and animal cells to further their learning on the topic. In addition, we will cover additional units in science in preparation for the NJASK.
Please visit Mr.T's website for information about what your child is covering in math.
Thank you for your continued support. |
