May 2012
The students of room 11 remain hard at work. After finishing up our Science unit on ecosystems, we are heading back into Social Studies to study the first American colonies. We will be learning about the Spanish, English, French and Dutch settlements. We will also explore historic Jamestown, the differences between the Pilgrims and Puritans, and the mystery of Roanoke Island. I wonder how the Native Americans began communicating with the first European colonists.
In Literacy, we have been polishing our writing techniques by writing for a variety of purposes. Having just concluded a Literature unit on our ever-changing Earth, we are about to embark on a new novel study. But, the author and book titles are a surprise! I guess we will just have to wait and see what’s in store. But, regardless of the genre, author, or title, the students of rooms 11 and 12 are prepared and confident that their reading strategies will lead them in the right direction, toward understanding.
We look forward to another exciting month and are happy to have Ms. McDonald and Mrs. Davis in the classroom helping us succeed!
Proudly,
Ms. Kartalis |
