Students are working working on writing to explain. They have been given various expository prompts and are practicing for homework and in class. In addition, students are working on responding to text. Students are using the acronym RARE to help with the steps of answering open-ended. Please see the RARE page for more details.
In May your child will participate in Career Day. As a way to bring students awareness about various jobs, they will be assigned a project concerning careers. Details will be sent home the first week in May.
In addition, be sure your child is bringing home books and he/she should be reading at home for at least 15 minutes a day and filling out Thinkmarks about what they are reading. Guided reading groups have begun and students should be working with their texts in their zip lock bags. There should be 5 books in their zip lock bags. Every other weeek students are choosing books from the classroom library that are 'just right.' Students are also practicing finding 'just right' books when they go to the library.
Students should also be studying their spelling words nightly and applying them into their writing. Some of the words on the list include words from the vocabulary workbook. Review defintions of these words and have students apply them.
