Message From The Principal Welcome to the 2010 - 2011 school year. I trust everyone had a healthy and restful, yet productive summer vacation. We are entering a challenging time of our existence, a time of great change. However, rest assured that we will still be providing a quality education for our students. Budget cuts have devastated several districts. We too, lost much in state aid, however, preplanning has placed our district in a better position than most, and many of our colleagues consider us lucky. It is quite apparent that in our case, luck is the residue of design. During the past year we continued the work of restructuring our school. In addition to the Freshman Foundation Program we have developed the Sophomore Experience Program. This is a focused Humanities Block consisting of English and Social Studies. The paring of topics to be covered and the cross disciplinary opportunities are quite exciting. There are two 94 minute blocks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon which provides for an additional 30 minutes of instruction per week. Sophomores will be in either block based on their elective choices. Both the Freshman Foundation and the Sophomore Experience will run on the A/B Block. As we return to school, I encourage every student to get involved in a school sponsored activity or sport. It will help to round out your education and expose you to a new group of friends. Piscataway High School enjoys deeply established and rich traditions. We have effectively served the needs of our community for over a half-century. Our mission affords each student the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe in individual dignity, the need for personal fulfillment, and the acceptance of one’s responsibility as a member of a democratic society. Striving for excellence has been, and will continue to be our goal. The learning our students receive here will provide them with a solid base upon which they will continue to grow and develop throughout their lives. I am proud to be serving as the educational leader of this outstanding school.
Michael A. Wanko, Ph.D. Principal
