About the Broadcast Media Suite

Piscataway Schools Broadcast Media Suite
 
The State of the Art Broadcast Media Suite is located in the East Wing of Piscataway High School. Facilities include:
  • two TV studios equipped with teleprompters and "green screen" capabilities
  • two control rooms equipped to broadcast live throughout the high school over two different channels
  • a professional, broadcast quality edit suite
  • an audio production room with professional audio board, 9 studio microphones and podcasting/audio editing computer workstations
  • a fiber networked "new media" lab with 17 Mac Workstations for digital video editing, podcasting, and multimedia production
  • a modern technologically equipped classroom with LCD projector and several PC computer workstations
  • an Fm radio station - WVPH 90.3 FM
The PHS Broadcast Media Suite hosts three major entities:
 

 
PSTV -- Piscataway Schools Television
The award-winning Piscataway Schools Television (PSTV) Studio is a broadcast-quality production facility. Productions include regularly cablecast programs such as, "Our Schools in Piscataway" and "Piscataway Township Schools: Events & Ideas". Curricular programming includes three award winning series:
The Pursuit of Piscataway Patty," "Snapshots of New Jersey" and "Espanol en Accion." The studio also lends production and postproduction support to all 10 schools in the district. Activities include production assistance with school or student projects, teacher-training sessions, live programming, videotaping of special events and videotape/DVD/CD creation and duplication.
 

PWAY-TV -- Piscataway High School Television
student produced programming and services
  • Students enrolled in TV & Radio broadcasting classes and the PWAY-TV Video Club produce the daily morning news program which is broadcast into each classroom during homeroom. The news show is also available for viewing on the district and high school websites.
  • Students assist staff and fellow classmates with multimedia projects and offer videography services for special events and class projects. Several motivated broadcasting students have won awards for their radio and video productions.

  • We have teamed up with MSG Varsity so that student produced programming is featured on the MSG Varsity website at:

MSGVarsity (you will need to be a Cablevision subscriber to view the site)

Students also have the opportunity to work with cable industry professionals as they videotape events, interview notable talent, and assist in MSG Varsity satellite truck productions.

 

Several classes are offered in radio/television production and digital video editing. Current courses offered include:
  • Introduction to Radio & TV Broadcasting
  • Television Broadcasting 2
  • Digital Video Editing
  • Independent Study in TV or Radio Production
  • Independent Study in Digital Video Editing
  • Senior Option in Radio or Television production.

 
WVPH 90.3FM -- Piscataway High School's radio station
 
Student broadcasters are on the air Monday through Friday from 6:30am - 7:15am and 1pm - 4pm on WVPH 90.3FM. Many students are involved in the radio club and shows vary in style and content. The radio station can be heard by listeners within a 20 mile radius (approximately) of Piscataway. Rutgers University students broadcast over WVPH when PHS students are not on the air.
