Ira joins the Board of Education after serving as a volunteer in Piscataway schools while he and his wife June raised their children, Mitchell and Zachary, both graduates of Piscataway High School.
 
He also served as a citizen member of the Board of Education Legislative Committee, playing an active role in lobbying for equitable state aid to school districts.
 
Ira holds the position of State Grant Project Training Coordinator in the Youth Transition to Work and Apprenticeship Program of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, where he administers an apprenticeship program for at risk high school students interested in technical careers.
 
Ira holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University, and a Master of Arts in Labor Studies from Rutgers University.  He is a former Board Member of New Jersey Citizen Action and the New Jersey Immigration Policy Network.
