Artificial Intelligence for Student Acceptable Use
Piscataway Township Schools values the importance of original student work for all students. The student's use of any and all artificial intelligence tools and platforms for assignment submission is to be utilized under the direction of the classroom teacher according to district procedures. The submission of any artificial intelligence-generated work as one’s own without proper acknowledgement, or the use of artificial intelligence tools for completing assignments in lieu of learning the content, is prohibited. The unauthorized use of artificial intelligence tools and platforms by students may result in disciplinary action as per the district’s plagiarism policy. Once again, each classroom teacher will direct students on what is allowed in relation to artificial intelligence in classrooms.
Student Assignment Expectations
Our district, as a default, will not allow the use of artificial intelligence for the completion of assignments. At all appropriate grade levels, your children will see the statement below on classroom expectations/material.
“Students may only use artificial intelligence (AI) tools for assignments when specifically instructed to do so by their teacher. Unauthorized use of AI for completing a specific assignment or project (or any part thereof) is prohibited and will be considered plagiarism and addressed in accordance with the code of conduct.”
To begin our AI journey, when directed on individual assignments, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Adobe Firefly will be the only AI engines allowed. Once again, these can only be utilized under the direction of each staff member for individual assignments.
The AI world is evolving quickly. Our district will continue to monitor new platforms/uses and implement them in a safe and productive manner.
