Superintendent's Corner

Dear Families:

Welcome back to school!

When we open our doors for the 2018-2019 school year, our goal is to ensure that every child is welcomed. Welcomed by their teachers, by their principal, by every staff member, and by other students.

Over the summer, the Board set our annual district goals that focus on empowering our professional staff, strengthening our educational program, our technology initiatives, safety and security, and our mental health services, and promoting a culture of wellness and mutual trust. Each of these goals will shape our work, and yes, our accountability, during the coming year.

In the areas of school security, the Board approved additional spending of $1.7 million, including funding safety officers for each building. We will be strengthening our social skills groups for all students, mentoring programs, and our mental health services.

Physical enhancements include improvements to public address systems, surveillance camera upgrades and additions, and a visitor management system. We will add double door vestibules to the five buildings that don’t have them.

Finally, we must begin the planning process for where our district is headed over the next five years. What will our student population look like, our educational programs, our buildings?

You will hear more about this in September and I invite members of our school community to play an active role in our strategic planning process.

I wish everyone a happy and successful 2018-2019!

Sincerely,

Teresa M.  Rafferty
