Wellness Committee

The Board of Education recognizes child and adolescent obesity has become a major health concern in the United States.  The Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA), funds child nutrition programs and establishes required nutrition standards for school lunch and breakfast programs. In accordance with the requirements of the HHFKA, the Board of Education developed a Wellness Policy that includes goals for nutrition promotion, nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities that promote student wellness.

The District Wellness Committee was established  to support the development, implementation and review of the District Wellness Policy.

The District Wellness Committee submits an annual report to the Board of Education to:

  1. Evaluate the extent to which schools are in compliance with the Wellness Policy.
  2. Evaluate the progress made in attaining the goals of the Wellness Policy.
  3. Offer recommendations for changes to the Wellness Policy and 4) provide an action plan for the following school year.

Our schools continue to demonstrate commitment to educating students regarding healthy nutrition, providing activities that involve physical activity, and encouraging overall wellness in all students. Health and wellness education and activities are developmentally appropriate across the grade levels and are implemented in collaboration with staff, administration, families and community partners.
