Piscataway rises in 2026 rankings of Best School Districts in NJ by Niche.com

Piscataway Township Schools has once again been selected by Niche.com as one of the Best School Districts in New Jersey for 2026, climbing up the rankings from the 2025 list.
Piscataway got an overall grade of A and rated an A+ in College Prep and Diversity, and an A in Teachers and Clubs & Activities.
The district earned the No. 59 spot for Best Districts in New Jersey in the 2026 poll (up from No. 69 in 2025), placing No. 6 (up from No. 7) among 23 districts in Middlesex County. Piscataway ranks as the No. 7 (up from No. 11) most diverse district in the state.
“Our district always strives for academic excellence and takes great pride in gaining strength through our diversity,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Johanna S. Ruberto, “and this recognition from Niche.com reflects both of those priorities.”
Nine of Piscataway’s individual schools – including Piscataway High School and all three middle schools – ranked in the Top 25 among Most Diverse Schools in New Jersey for their respective grade groupings among traditional public schools.
“The culture of Piscataway Township School is one of respect and mutual support,” Dr. Ruberto said. “We could not achieve the level of excellence we have without outstanding administrators, teachers, and support staff, and the tremendous backing we get from our community. It is rewarding to see that observers outside our district recognize the excellence of Piscataway Township Schools.”
Piscataway’s grade of A+ for College Prep is the result of a wide range of programs to support college-bound Piscataway High School students.
“We are so proud of the efforts from our dedicated school counselors to earn an A+ in College Prep from Niche.com,” said Kelly Chilakos, supervisor of College, Career & Personal Guidance at PHS. “The PHS School Counselors and our College and Career Counselor provide a plethora of resources to our students to support them through the college planning process.”
These resources include college planning and college application resources in the Schoology learning management system, college visits, field trips, group meetings, parent workshops, educational planning, and individual counseling meetings.
“School counselors attend various events hosted by colleges to build relationships with admissions representatives and gain insight about the colleges for our students,” Chilakos said. “The school counselors meet frequently as a department to reflect on best practices to support our students in achieving their goals.”
