Board members uplifted by Women's Leadership Conference
Members of our Board of Education shared an enriching experience with colleagues from around the state when they attended the 3rd annual NJ School Boards Association Women’s Leadership Conference!
President Nancy Salgado-Cowan, Vice President Shantell Cherry, Dr. Gayle Nelson, Loretta Rivers, and Inieka Stafford joined more than 200 other educational leaders on March 20 at the College of New Jersey for the event with the theme “Rise & Thrive.”
Mrs. Salgado-Cowan was featured during the keynote address of Kimberley Markus-Harrington, a former state commissioner of education. Mrs. Salgado Cowan shared a personal and inspiring message about her childhood educational experiences and how they shaped the woman she is today.
Dr. Nelson and Ms. Rivers presented a workshop to attendees about the importance of transparency in effective governance, public trust, and ethical decision-making. Their facilitated discussion provided practical tools and shared understanding to help board members lead with clarity, openness, and consistency internally and with the broader community.
“We are exceedingly proud of our women board members and want to celebrate them, particularly as we close Women’s History Month,” Mrs. Salgado-Cowan said. “We are fortunate to have such great leadership on our Piscataway school board. The women had a wonderful day of education, sisterhood, and understanding the generational differences that exist in board service.”
