There were about 150 more sets of smiles, greetings, and goodbye hugs in Piscataway on the first day of school, as Piscataway Township Schools has greatly expanded its preschool program.

The Piscataway district opened a fourth preschool campus for the 2026-2027 school year, creating Children’s Corner - Farm to fully meet the needs of its families and expand opportunities for its youngest learners.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, for Children’s Corner-Farm, our district’s newest preschool campus. Holding the scissors are Board President Nancy Salgado-Cowan and Superintendent Erskine R. Glover. The preschool is in the former Fellowship Farms School at 1515 Stelton Road, sharing a building with the district’s administrative offices. “The Farm” adds up to 150 seats to the preschool program, which now serves more than 770 students ages 3 and 4. The program is free to Piscataway residents.

“A robust preschool program is vital to setting students off on the right foot for their academic journeys,” said Superintendent Erskine R. Glover. “We are proud to be able to offer more of our families the opportunity for free, high-quality early childhood education.”

The new preschool location joins Children’s Corner - Lily Pad on Old New Brunswick Road, Children’s Corner - Pond in the former Our Lady of Fatima School, and Children’s Corner - River in the former St. Frances Cabrini School. Prior to this 24 percent expansion, families seeking to enroll were often put on waiting lists for seats. That will no longer be the case.

“These additional seats represent a great savings to Piscataway families, who no longer have to find and pay for costly day-care programs for their children,” Glover said. “And they can be assured their children are safe and receiving a classroom experience that aligns with the curriculum they will experience in kindergarten, first grade, and beyond, as they move through Piscataway Township Schools.”

Free preschool ensures that families, regardless of income, have the opportunity to give their children a quality early-learning experience.

“Our strong preschool curriculum helps children at all four Children’s Corner Preschool campuses to develop social skills, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and confidence,” said Kimberly Georgeian, Piscataway’s Director of Community Education and Early Childhood. “It’s far more than just letters and numbers. These skills prepare children for kindergarten and for success throughout their education.

“When we invest in preschool, we are investing in our children’s future.”

The expansion was made possible through NJ Department of Education Preschool Expansion Aid. New Jersey encouraged public school districts to add preschool classrooms by offering funding through school facilities project grants, made possible through an allocation of federal American Rescue Plan funds.

Of the $5.7 million approved project cost for Children’s Corner - Farm, the state is funding $2.3 million. This support has allowed Piscataway Township Schools to remodel 10 classrooms.

“Preschool expansion is an important initiative for the district because research shows that high-quality early childhood education provides lasting impacts on the long-term educational achievements of students,” said Business Administrator David Oliveira. 

“The Piscataway Board of Education is committed to aggressively expanding our available preschool seats and providing the best educational opportunities for our families.”
