Piscataway among state leaders with 6 NJ School Communication Awards

Piscataway is once again among the most celebrated school districts in the state for school communications.
Piscataway Township Schools won six awards at the New Jersey School Communication Awards on Tuesday, Sept. 29 – tied for the most of any school district in the state for the 3rd straight year.
The awards are given out by the New Jersey School Public Relations Association and were developed to recognize New Jersey’s professional school communicators and their community outreach programs that go above and beyond to disseminate important messages to their school communities. Winning entries are from the 2025-2026 school year.
“Behind every award-winning entry is a communications professional working to keep staff and families informed and engaged,” said Christine Corliss, President of NJSPRA and Public Information Officer at Ridgewood Public Schools. “Piscataway’s recognition in five distinct categories shows what’s possible when a district puts real thought into how it connects with its community.”

Piscataway’s awards include:
Best in Class - Award of Excellence for Specialty Publication: 2025-2026 School Guide & Calendar
The School Guide & Calendar is a booklet that is mailed to every family in the district and includes vital district and school information that can be referenced throughout the year. It also includes a full wall calendar for the school year, filled with the district schedule and school events.
Award of Excellence for Media Coverage: Buddy Ball feature on News 12 NJ
This award was given to Vincenzo Stio, Eisenhower Elementary School principal and founder and leader of Piscataway Buddy Ball, an all-volunteer physical fitness program for Piscataway students with special needs. Thanks to Mr. Stio’s efforts, Buddy Ball was highlighted in December 2025 on the News 12 NJ program “Spotlight New Jersey.” The six-part interview with host Della Crews highlighted Mr. Stio, program volunteers and families, and the program’s meaningful impact on students and the Piscataway community.

They are supported by Assistant Superintendents Dr. Glenn Lottmann and Dr. Najla Solomon, and Superintendent Erskine R. Glover.
Award of Merit for Newsletter: Superintendent’s Report
The monthly Superintendent’s Report newsletter is created in three distinct formats: a traditional print newsletter, an e-newsletter with links to more information, and a translatable, text-only version on the district website. All three versions highlight good news, accomplishments, and celebrations throughout the district with eye-catching photos and informative vignettes.
Award of Merit for Social Media
Piscataway Township Schools’ social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube increase community engagement and involvement with regularly scheduled posts highlighting achievements and celebrations across Piscataway schools.
Award of Merit for Photography: Girls wrestling team’s first win
The winning photo shows the Piscataway High School girls wrestling team celebrating as they captured the first dual-meet win in their history on Jan. 16, 2026.
Award of Merit for Photography: Knollwood’s new dictionaries
The winning photo shows three third-grade girls showing excitement at receiving new dictionaries. Each third-grader in the district receives their own dictionary from the Piscataway Rotary Club each year. The photo captures the joy of learning and importance of literacy as the girls explore the dictionary’s different features, and highlights a valuable community partnership and a tradition that goes back more than 20 years.
Public Information Officer Gary Miller accepted the awards at the NJSPRA fall workshop in Monroe on behalf of the district.
“Piscataway Township Schools is committed to keeping our families and community stakeholders involved and informed, and these awards highlight the success we have had in doing that on a multitude of platforms,” said Superintendent Erskine R. Glover. “Our district is fortunate of have Gary Miller keeping our parents, staff, and community informed, and keeping the successes of our schools and students in the spotlight.”
The 2026 N.J. School Communication Awards contest included 137 entries from 40 different school districts around New Jersey. Entries were judged by 13 judges from Arizona, California, Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio.
Piscataway Township Schools also won six awards in the 2025 N.J. School Communications Awards, the highest total for any district, and four awards in the 2024 awards, one of just two districts to do so.
Piscataway communications also won three awards and an honorable mention in the national Publications & Digital Media Awards in spring 2026, also for newsletter, calendar, and photography, as well as for video series.
